Reflecting on 2021 for BDN

Managing Director, Richard Marsden, reflects at the end of a successful year for Building Design Northern Ltd.

It’s been a challenging year for all, and as the year draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the hard work and successes that have come out of 2021 for BDN.

In April, we relocated our Head Office to Sunderland, moving into Simpson Street School. The restoration of Simpson Street has transformed the working environment for BDN, and we all feel immense pride to have given a new lease of life to an important piece of Sunderland’s heritage. It was incredible to see our hard work recognised in September, as the development won the North East Insider Property Award for ‘Fit Out / Refurbishment of the Year’.

BDN again saw rapid growth this year, as we expanded across all departments, with the welcome of 7 new employees, subsequently growing our team to 22. Successes were also celebrated, with the promotions of 7 Directors / Associates and the promotion of our Junior Engineer, as he became a fully qualified Structural Engineer.

“I’m enormously proud of the BDN team, and for all their incredible hard work this year and all we have achieved as an organisation. ”

BDN then saw a complete re-brand, alongside the launch of a brand-new website, demonstrating a refreshing change for the company. We have also celebrated the close of some exciting developments at the end of this year, alongside celebrating the amazing projects we have worked on throughout 2021.

2021 has also seen a great deal of change. This week, we have celebrated the retirement of our Senior Engineer, Dave Tarn. Dave has worked at BDN since 2003. He was instrumental in the restoration of Simpson Street School, and had a key influence on significant projects, including Thorburn’s Yard, Seahouses and the Amble Inn. Dave – we wish you a happy and healthy retirement. Thank you for all you have contributed to BDN over the past 18 years, you will be dearly missed.

It’s safe to say it has a been a busy year! Thank you to our amazing team, clients and followers for the support over the past year. We are so grateful for the ongoing support you have shown BDN.

From the whole BDN team, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and send our best wishes for the New Year! Our offices will be closed until January 4th, as we all have a well-earned rest.

We are so excited to see what 2022 will bring!
