New Hire as BDN’s Civil Engineering Department Grows

North East Multi-Disciplined Structural, Civil Engineering and Architecture firm, Building Design Northern, has made a new hire to facilitate the ambitious growth of the Civil Engineering department.

Sunderland-based Building Design Northern (BDN), has hired John Herring as civil engineer, during a period of significant growth.

John, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham, has spent the last 15 years living in the USA, spending several years working for international engineering firms in New York and Ohio. In his career, he has worked on multiple high profile, multi-disciplinary projects, including the creation of a transportation facility for the Bronx Zoo.

Following his relocation to the North East, John has joined the Civil Engineering department at BDN. The North East firm, which also offers structural engineering and architectural services to clients across the UK, is continuing to expand its services.

BDN’s Civil Engineering department have collaborated with leading firms on both residential and commercial developments, including Taylor Wimpey, Miller Homes, British Steel and Ashcourt Group.

John is the latest hire to join the 23-strong team, who’s HQ is based in The Old School, Simpson Street School, which has recently completed a £1m renovation, housing eight-luxury loft apartments alongside BDN’s head office.

Andrew Webb, Director of Civil Engineering, who redeveloped the division when he joined the practice in 2020, said, ‘‘It is a pleasure to witness the continued growth of the Civil Engineering department. We are delighted to welcome John to the team.
