BDN were appointed to create an industrial warehouse building designed across multiple ground levels, in accordance with South Tyneside Council’s brief to achieve an effective recycling process.
The £1.8 million new-build centre intended to allow up to 20,000 tonnes of blue bin materials to be delivered locally and stored on site. BDN provided architectural and Structural and Civil engineering services for the development.
The upper floor it utilised for dropping off and storing materials, with the building’s lower level providing HGVs access to a loading bay.
Solar panels were also installed as a feature of the building, which generate around 80,000kW of electricity annually.
The project was built by Hall Construction Services Ltd.
