Civil Engineering
BDN have provided Civil Engineering consultancy services to Silkwood Homes at Sycamore Square, a development of 37 homes on the site of the former Sanderson Hospital, in Gosforth. The 1.33-hectare site was formally home to a Victorian children’s hospital founded by Newcastle philanthropist, W J Sanderson, but had been empty for almost 20 years.
BDN’s innovative design utilises permeable surfacing across the entirety of the sites hard landscaping areas, to provide water quality improvements over a traditional drainage system.
Upon completion, the residential scheme will create 23 new houses and 14 apartments centred around a large green central space, which retains the existing trees on-site while introducing further SuDs benefits in the form of a detention basin.
There will be a mix of four and five bedroom detached homes including two bungalows, four-bedroom townhouses and two-bedroom apartments, with access via North Avenue.
