Reflecting on 2022 for BDN

As 2022 draws to a close, we are reflecting on the achievements and success of the past year.

We began the year with a bang, announcing the ‘Sheepfolds’ development, introducing visionary plans to transform the derelict grade II listed stables into Sunderland’s hottest new food, drink and leisure venue. The BDN-led development will showcase a unique offering of food, drink and entertainment for the North East, with Si King, Tamer Hassan and The Spey Snug confirmed to join the line-up.

In April, the renovations of Simpson Street School were complete, marking the launch of Simpson Street Apartments. Operating as an Aparthotel, Simpson Street Apartments continue to welcome short-term and long-term business and leisure stays.

As part of our ongoing partnership with Northumbria University, we established a ‘Knowledge Transfer Partnership’ in May, welcoming Dr Faye Sedgewick to the team. The KTP provides a unique link between industry and academia, placing us at the forefront of innovation to inform our designs by the latest research and insight.

“2022 has been a successful year for BDN. We are in a strong position as we move into 2023, embarking on ambitious growth plans in the North West, as well as deliver exciting multi-discipline projects, including the Sheepfolds. I am immensely proud of our hard-working team and their achievements, and wish them all a Merry Christmas.”

Richard Marsden
Managing Director

We have experienced growth like no other, welcoming 7 talented staff members across all departments, expanding to a team of 27. Ambitious growth plans were launched for our Ulverston office, with the BDN presence in the Lake District planned to develop further in 2023.

Key milestones across a variety of multi-discipline projects have been celebrated, as well as multiple successful appointments to Public Sector Frameworks. We were also presented with the SME Business of the Year award at the Sunderland Business Excellence Awards – a testament to the hard work and determination of our team in contributing to the transformation of Sunderland, Ulverston and beyond.

Thank you to our incredible team and clients for contributing to the year’s success. We are so grateful for the ongoing support you have shown BDN.

From all at BDN, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, and send our best wishes for the New Year! Our offices will be closed from 23rd December until January 3rd, as we all have a well-earned rest.

We have huge plans for 2023 and cannot wait to share them with you…we may even need a new office!
